Something Seen

On 24 April 1874 Schafarik of Prague watched a brilliant white object move slowly across the face of the moon and then away from it.

Postmaster Ziegler and several others watched a body take about an hour to cross the face of the sun. Dr. Brendel of Griefswald, Pomerania, sent in their report.

Half an hour before sunrise on 22 March 1880, a great many bright points of light rose over Kattenau, Germany, and crossed the sky east to west in a narrow band.

Two observers some distance apart in Marseilles each saw an unknown round body at the same point on the sun's edge.

On a still June night a yellow substance fell by the bucketful onto a ship in Pictou Harbour, Nova Scotia. Tests reported in the American Journal of Science suggested to one Mr. Blake that it might be insect eggs.

For more than an hour in June 1801, a mirage of a city nobody could name hung over Youghal, County Cork. Mirages of walled towns had been seen there in 1796 and 1797.

A long, spindle-shaped body sat on the face of the sun and crept slowly across it, staying in view until it reached the edge on 7 September.
