Waverly Hills Sanatorium
A former tuberculosis hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, now run as a tour site that offers history tours alongside paranormal tours and ghost investigations.
Kentucky Historic Institutions says Louisville had one of the worst tuberculosis death rates in the United States at the start of the 20th century. It points to early industry and to the city's position in the Ohio Valley, where the air moves poorly. In 1906 a hospital board for tuberculosis was formed and began looking for a site to hold the disease in check. Kentucky Historic Institutions now keeps an index of patients who died at Waverly Hills from 1911 onward and adds to it over time.
Louisville Public Media, reporting in 2026 on the hospital's segregated ward, described the main building as a four-storey brick hospital for 500 patients above Dixie Highway, and said it is now rumoured to be haunted.
Wikipedia says the building is promoted as a haunted hospital, with tours inside. The Waverly Hills Historical Society says thousands come each year for the history, the architecture and the paranormal, and it sells historical tours, paranormal tours, and public and private investigations.
"Currently, tours of the ex-hospital are conducted within the building. It is marketed as a haunted hospital.[6][7]"
