On 22 September 2000, members of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization found a large body imprint in mud at Skookum Meadows, Washington. They read it as a Bigfoot; skeptics read it as an elk.

On 22 September 2000, members of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) were on an expedition to Skookum Meadows in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Washington, while filming the television show Animal X. Wikipedia records that they left fruit in a muddy wallow overnight, with no cameras running. Outside magazine says the bait was apples and melon. The next morning they found a patchwork of prints and some of the apples gone.

The main find was a partial body imprint in the mud. Wikipedia gives the plaster cast taken of it as 3.5 by 5 feet and about 400 pounds. Outside reports that LeRoy Fish recognised coyote and elk tracks among the marks but could find no animal source for the forearm, heel and rump impressions.

BFRO members and Bigfoot researchers such as Daniel Perez, who edits The Bigfoot Times, regard the cast as a body print left by a Bigfoot that lay down in the mud for the fruit. Skeptics interviewed on the MonsterTalk podcast think it is a large elk print.
