Documents that surfaced in 1984 describing a secret committee called Majestic 12, said by ufologists to prove a hidden UFO group. The FBI called the document bogus.

In December 1984 an anonymous package holding a roll of film reached the ufologist Jaime Shandera, Discovery UK says. The film showed a document carrying top-secret Majic markings. It appeared to be a briefing from Vice Admiral Roscoe Hillenkoetter to President-elect Dwight Eisenhower, dated 18 November 1952, telling him that a group called Majestic 12 existed.

Ufologists took the papers as proof of the group, Atlas Obscura says. Wikipedia says an agent of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations contacted the FBI's Dallas office on 15 September 1988, after receiving the document from someone at a school who said it had arrived by post. The FBI opened its own inquiry and soon doubted the document. After OSI told the bureau on 30 November that the committee had never been set up or authorised, the FBI declared the document "completely bogus". Atlas Obscura reports that the FBI wrote BOGUS across the papers.

The National Archives says the National Security Council's meeting minutes hold no record of any council meeting on 16 July 1954, and its July 1954 minutes never mention MJ-12 or Majestic.
