Newspapers reported hundreds of Jersey Devil encounters across South Jersey and around Philadelphia in the week of 16 to 23 January 1909, including one in Camden.

The Camden County Historical Society records that the creature was sighted in Camden on 18 January 1909. LevittownNow, in a 2025 article, reports that a Bristol man named John Mcowen said he saw it beside the water on 16 January 1909.
