The first Hudson Valley boomerang sighting
A former policeman from New York City, living in Kent, said that just before midnight on 31 December 1982 a huge V-shaped craft passed low over his house.
Minutes ahead of midnight, as 1982 ended, a former New York City policeman who had lately moved to Kent, New York, stepped outside to sweep up glass left from smashing a champagne bottle against the house in a christening. In the accounts, a group of white, green and red lights caught his eye beyond the trees. Gradually an enormous V-shaped aircraft, about a football field in size, came into view. It crept silently over his house only a few hundred feet up, edged with lights of green, blue and red, with a bright white beam shining down from its centre.
This began the Hudson Valley sightings, which stretched through 1983 and 1984 across New York and western Connecticut. State police said that small Cessna planes had flown closely together, with bright, colour-changing lights, and that their pilots were amused by the confusion their hoax caused. The man's account and the police explanation are both claims.
"The 1984 Hudson Valley UFO Sightings, also called "The Westchester Boomerang",[2] were UFO sightings that stretched throughout 1983–1984[3] in New York and Western Connecticut. State police reported that Cessna 152s had flown in tight formation with bright lights that could change colors, the pilots of which expressed amusement at the confusion caused by their hoax. Subsequent news stories, books, and other publicity helped make the sightings significant in local history and ufology lore."
