The Diplomat Hotel, Baguio
A former Dominican retreat house on Dominican Hill in Baguio City, known as the Diplomat Hotel, which paranormal believers say is haunted because of its Second World War history.
The building on Dominican Hill in Baguio City began as a Dominican home. SunStar Baguio reported in 2017 that Father Roque Ruano started it. He was a University of Santo Tomas civil engineer, and eight years later he designed and built that university's main building. Wikipedia and SunStar call it the Diplomat Hotel.
Wikipedia says paranormal believers treat the hotel as haunted and link this to its brutal history in the Second World War. Reported sightings include Japanese soldiers, headless nuns, voices crying with no one there, moans and screams, and figures in photos taken on the grounds. Believers, per Wikipedia, call it a "ghost magnet".
The hotel has featured on television: a 2004 Halloween special of Magandang Gabi, Bayan, the show AHA!, and Halloween specials of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho in 2016 and 2023, according to Wikipedia. On 1 September 2014, Baguio City Day, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines and the city unveiled a marker naming the Dominican Hill and Retreat House a protected historical property, The Philippine Star reported.
"The hotel is considered by paranormal believers to be haunted by restless spirits[15] due to its brutal World War II history[16][17] and is considered by these believers as a "ghost magnet."[6] Phantom Japanese soldiers, headless nuns, disembodied crying voices, moans and screams as well as apparitions in photographs taken within the property have been reported. It was featured on television programs: Magandang Gabi, Bayan's 2004 Halloween Special, AHA!, and Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho's 2016 and 2023 Halloween Specials."
