Wikipedia's list of reportedly haunted paintings says an urban legend attaches to one specific 1899 version of Munch's Death and the Child, a work also titled The Dead Mother. Viewers, it says, describe the frightened girl's eyes tracking them when they walk past, and a faint rustle near the canvas, usually put down to the dead mother's bedclothes. Earlier owners are said to have reported the girl vanishing from the picture altogether.

On her ArtCurious podcast in 2021, Jennifer Dasal noted that online retellings keep repeating the same traits: the girl's wide blue eyes that follow the viewer, and a rustling sound some say comes from the mother's blankets.

The Kunsthalle Bremen's collection page names Munch's Death and the Child as his main work there. Wikipedia's German article says the Kunsthalle bought the picture in 1918, when director Emil Waldmann paid 20,000 marks for it. It was the first Munch painting bought by a German museum.

From the primary source
"According to urban legend, a particular 1899 copy of Edvard Munch's painting Death and the Child (sometimes known as The Dead Mother[11]) is cursed. Viewers have described the horrified girl's eyes following them as they move, and hearing a soft rustling sound (usually attributed to the eponymous mother's bed sheets) when near the painting. Previous owners of the painting are said to have described the girl disappearing altogether from the canvas.[11]"
