Anne Boleyn's ghost
The ghost of Anne Boleyn, the second wife of Henry VIII, beheaded in the Tower of London in 1536, is reported at the Tower and at Hever Castle, Blickling Hall, Salle Church and Marwell Hall.
Anne Boleyn was the second wife of Henry VIII. She was beheaded in 1536, in the Tower of London. Hever Castle, her family's home, notes that her father Thomas lived on there until he died in 1539.
Wikipedia lists people who say they have seen her ghost at Hever Castle, Salle Church, Blickling Hall, Marwell Hall and the Tower of London. One dated account comes through the paranormal writer Hans Holzer. In it, Captain J. D. Dundas, a 60th Rifles officer quartered at the Tower in 1864, looked down from his window and saw a guard acting oddly in front of the rooms where Anne had been held.
The story also turns up in a 1934 comic song, With Her Head Tucked Underneath Her Arm, by R. P. Weston, Bert Lee and Harris Weston and first sung by Stanley Holloway. In the song her ghost walks the Tower seeking revenge on Henry.
Joe Nickell, writing in Skeptical Inquirer, puts hers among the best known headless ghosts in his survey of the type. He points out that many others were beheaded there too, among them Thomas Cromwell, one of her accusers, and Catherine Howard, whom Henry married later.
"A number of people have claimed to have seen Anne's ghost at Hever Castle, Blickling Hall, Salle Church, the Tower of London and Marwell Hall.[234][235][236] One account of her reputed sighting was given by paranormal researcher Hans Holzer. In 1864, Captain (later Major General) J. D. Dundas of the 60th Rifles regiment was billeted in the Tower of London. As he was looking out the window of his quarters, he noticed a guard below in the courtyard, in front of the lodgings where Anne had been imprisoned, behaving strangely."
