Anna Baker's wedding dress
A ghost story attached to the Baker Mansion, a museum of the Blair County Historical Society, about a wedding dress that Anna Baker is said to have bought for a marriage her father stopped.
The Blair County Historical Society's own history of the house is plain. Sylvester and Anna Baker stayed single and lived in the mansion until they died. After Anna's death in 1914 the house was closed until 1922, when the society took a lease and turned it into a museum. The society bought it in 1941 and uses it as its headquarters.
The ghost story appears on Wikipedia, which calls it the house's famous legend. In that version Anna, described as Elias Baker's eldest daughter, secretly courted a poor steel worker and bought a dress for their planned wedding. Elias found out, bought the mill where the young man worked and forced him to leave for another city. Wikipedia says that after Anna died, Baker relatives reported the dress turning up in odd places around the house, and that her ghost is seen walking in it.
Wikipedia names no individual relative, and the society says the house was closed after Anna's death. The society's history, as excerpted here, has no ghost in it, but the museum runs night-time lantern tours on the house's haunted past and on paranormal folklore from Blair County.
"The famous legend associated with the mansion is the wedding dress of Anna Baker. Elias Baker's eldest daughter, Anna was in a relationship with a poor steel worker behind her father's back, to the point that they planned a wedding, and Anna purchased her own wedding dress. This was soon discovered by Elias, who strongly against the relationship. He bought the steel mill that Anna's fiancée was working for and forced him to move to another city."
